Schoolteachers give students homework to reinforce classroom learning and discipline students and prepare them for upcoming assessment. Arguments about homework have been coming from teachers alongside parents and their student beneficiaries for the past few years. Many researchers say heavy homework gives students stress while reducing study time and not improving school results.

The debate is about homework benefits because students can use the assignments to memorize better and develop time management skills but teachers say it gives too much academic pressure to children. Too much homework leads to burnout and anxiety and kills the desire to learn. Home environment is not always conducive to learning because some children lack resources and proper facilities to study at home.

2. It Doesn’t Give Time for Personal Growth

Children and teenagers need academic time away from school work to develop their interests. The homework requirement consumes time that students need to spend on extracurricular activities and family bonding and relaxation. Students who do assignments nonstop fail to participate in self-improvement activities and important social events and new experiences.

3. There’s Always A Questionable Impact on Academic Performance

Research shows that homework doesn’t produce better academic results. Research says that homework in moderation solidifies information but giving out too many assignments might reduce effectiveness. Students whose homework duties exceed reasonable limits experience burnout and lose both educational drive and classroom participation.

4. Resources are Most Times Not Available

Not all students have equal access to resources for their homework assignments. Students from disadvantaged environments lack access to internet and school supplies and study areas. The educational field is unfair because students who have access to additional resources get better grades than students who don’t have access to these resources. So the educational inequalities increase.

1. There Should Be More Interactive Classroom Learning

Teachers should use classroom methods that combine active learning instead of assigning homework. Students learn better through hands-on classroom activities and group discussions and real-life applications of subjects that don’t require homework.

2. Self-Directed Learning Should Be Mandatory for Students

Success is achieved better when learners are allowed to pursue their own interests. Schools should allow students to choose their own activities instead of assigning homework because the new program encourages self-directed learning and creativity. The method gives students control over their own pace of learning.

Most schools have always considered homework as essential but professionals now question its educational value. Homework is an outdated practice because it creates excessive stress and time pressure with no academic benefits. Schools should replace traditional homework with innovative ways of learning that values student health and complete academic growth.
